Social media event for businesses to reach William & Mary freshmen

Local businesses have an opportunity to participate in the Orientation AVAdventure for incoming William & Mary freshmen will be held at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 31 at the Williamsburg campus.

This orientation program introduces new students to local businesses using digital and social media technologies. Students will travel through the downtown business districts, with the finale taking place on William & Mary’s campus in the Sunken Gardens.

The locations of participating businesses will be announced during the event and there will be real-time signups for social media outlets such as Facebook and Twitter and an interactive five-minute  piece based on the business. Each student will receive a drawstring backpack filled with coupons and fliers that promote area businesses. Students will also be eligible for ongoing raffles and promotions hosted by the city and businesses via social media.

Area businesses are invited to learn more about the project by attending an informational meeting held at 2 p.m. June 19 at the Williamsburg Community Building, 401 N. Boundary St. in Williamsburg.
