Peninsula Health District seeks information after dog bite
Peninsula Health District officials are seeking a large, older black dog a man walked on a leash that bit a child Wednesday, June 27, according to the city's press release.
The dog might be in the area of Hamilton Drive and Page Street in Williamsburg. If the dog isn’t found, the child might be forced to undergo treatment (shots) to prevent rabies.
The animal won’t be taken away from its owner if found, only placed on in-home confinement for 10 days.
Anyone who has seen a dog fitting this description in the area should call the Peninsula Health District Williamsburg Area Environmental Health Office at 757-253-4813 or visit the office at 1126 Professional Drive in Williamsburg.
If someone spots the dog after office hours, call the Williamsburg/James City County Animal Control at 757-253-1800.
Residents should report all exposures and enjoy wildlife from a distance. Also, make sure family pets are vaccinated and protected against the rabies virus.
State law requires dogs and cats to be vaccinated between 3 and 4 months of age and thereafter to maintain protection against rabies.
