Westgate Resorts ranked 31 of top 50 private companies in Florida

"Florida Trend" magazine has given high marks to a resort company with ties to Williamsburg.

Westgate Resorts has once again been ranked among Florida's Top 50 Private Companies in "Florida Trend's" annual TopRank Florida 2012 lists. The company was ranked 31 on the list of 50, which was published in the magazine’s June issue. This the third time in a row the company has been included in the list, which looks at revenue generated among all private companies in Florida.

"I'm extremely proud of the entire Westgate family for being recognized as one of the top companies in the state of Florida," David A. Siegel, founder and CEO, said in a press release. "This award is a testament to the dedication of the thousands of outstanding team members who work tirelessly to provide exceptional five-star vacations and is confirmation that our business continues to grow and prosper."

Founded in 1982, Westgate Resorts employs more than 6,500 people throughout the U.S. at 27 resorts, including one in Williamsburg. Starting with its 16-unit resort at Westgate Vacation Villas just one-mile from Walt Disney World Resort, Westgate Resorts now encompasses more than 10,000 guestrooms.

"The company is more profitable now, on a margin basis, than at any time in our 30-year history," Siegel said. "I am pleased to report that we are on track for an even better year in 2012."

The company also operates the Westgate Resorts Foundation. Started in 2001, the foundation provides more than $1 million annually to charities and causes in communities with a Westgate resort.
