Williamsburg brew among contenders for spot in Budweiser fall sampler

Consumers will have the final say in whether a local brewmaster's effort gets one of three coveted spots in the Anheuser-Busch fall sampler pack.

According to a release from the brewery, "Project 12" challenged brewmasters at Budweiser's 12 U.S. breweries to collaborate on an original beer using proprietary yeast directly descended from the original Budweiser yeast culture used by Adolphus Busch in 1876. From those 12 small-batch beers, six were chosen to nationwide sampling effort this summer.

Among those brews is Budweiser Small Batch 23185, named after the Williamsburg ZIP code where it was brewed, the release said. The light-amber all-malt bourbon cask lager is brewed by Daniel Westmoreland in Williamsburg and was developed in collaboration with Mike Anderson at A-B's Jacksonville, Fla., facility and Dan Kahn in Cartersville, Ga.

Private events with brewmasters will be held during August at venues in each of the 12 A-B brewery cities. The six beers also will be sampled during "Budweiser Made in America" over Labor Day weekend in Philadelphia.

Following the events, consumer feedback will help narrow the beers to just three that will be bottled as a limited edition sampler pack which goes on sales this fall.
