Williamsburg 2012 Charity Tennis Classic benefits victims of abuse
Tennis players will raise money for Avalon, a battered women and children's center, by competing in the Williamsburg 2012 Charity Tennis Classic, a women's double tournament.
Match times are at 8:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, with semi-finals and consolation rounds at 9 a.m., and finals at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8 at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center.
The center is located at 705 S. Henry St., Williamsburg.
Proceeds from the charity tournament also benefit CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocates, which is an organization of trained volunteers who advocate for children who are in the court system because they were neglected or abused.
The charity event began in 1994 to help Avalon when the center needed more funding. CASA was added as an equal recipient five years later.
