New athletics fees for York County Schools take affect this season

To defray athletic costs, students in York County Schools will pay between $50 and $120 fees to play sports this year.

The fees are used by the school to cover the cost of transportation, officials, supplies, Virginia High School League membership fees, and equipment. The fees are non-refundable and do not guarantee playing time.

Participation fees are $50 per season for middle school students and $60 per student per season for high school students.

Maximum fees charged per year will not exceed $100 for middle school students and $120 for high school students. Fees are waived for students who qualify for free or reduced price meals and students who play sports during all three season will not be charged for the third season.

Middle school deadlines to pay fall fees are Tuesday, Sept. 4 through Friday, Sept. 14 for fall sports.

For winter sports, deadlines are between Friday, Nov. 12 and Friday, Nov. 23.

For spring sports, fees are due between Monday, Feb. 25, 2013 and Friday, March 8, 2013.

High school deadlines are, for fall sports, Monday, Aug. 6 through Friday, Aug. 17; for winter sports, Monday, Nov. 12 through Friday, Nov. 23; and spring sports, Monday, Feb. 25 through Friday, March 8.
