Public hearing set on updates to official zoning map for Williamsburg
The Williamsburg City Council will hold a public hearing at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, in the Stryker Building, 412 N. Boundary St., to discuss replacing the city's official zoning map.
According to information released by the city's planning department, the change is being sought to update the city's "official" zoning map and to upgrade the map to the latest cartographic technology. Zoning maps were last revised in February 2003 when original paper maps were replaced with maps prepared using an AutoCAD system. The city has since shifted its mapping capabilities to a Geographic Information System base.
At a July 18 public hearing, the city's Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend the approval of the revised zoning maps to the City Council. If approved, the ordinance would take effect 10 days following its passage.
As proposed, the new zoning map would actually contain three maps: a zoning districts map, and an architectural review districts map which includes the Corridor Protection District and Archaeological Protection Districts. The architectural review districts would also appear separately on its own GIS base map.
Residents are encouraged to attend the meeting and provide comment on the proposed change.
