Old Point Financial declares third quarter dividend

Hampton-based Old Point Financial Corporation declared a quarterly dividend of $0.05 per share of common stock to be paid on Sept. 28.

Shareholders of record as of Aug. 31 will be eligible to receive the dividend.

This marks the 10th consecutive $0.05 quarterly dividend distributed by the company since it was decreased from $0.10 in the second quarter of 2010, a level it maintained for four previous quarters. Dividends increased steadily between 1993 and 2009, peaking at $0.17 in the third quarter of 2008.

The dividend announcement arrived on the heels of Old Point's second quarter earnings report, released July 30. The company highlighted profits of $1.7 million for the quarter, or $0.35 per diluted share, marking a year-on-year increase of nearly 25 percent.

Old Point Financial Corporation is a holding company with two bank subsidiaries: The Old Point National Bank of Phoebus and Old Point Trust & Financial Services. The company operates 21 branch offices and two trust offices in and around Hampton, Newport News, Williamsburg/James City County, Norfolk, Virginia Beach and Chesapeake.
