Lafayette football team to host Brunswick on Aug. 30

Lafayette High School's football team finished 9-3 a year ago, and the Rams will try to build on that success Thursday, Aug. 30 when they battle Brunswick in a 7 p.m. home game.

Lafayette will go into this year aiming for its second consecutive winning season.   A year ago, the Rams made it to the postseason, beating Park View 57-21 in the opening round of the playoffs before falling 56-21 to Monroe in the second round. The Rams are under the direction of head coach Paul Wheeler.   Brunswick is coming off a 20-19 win over Nottoway in its season opener Aug. 24. The Bulldogs trailed 7-0 at the end of the first quarter but led 8-7 at halftime.   Brunswick was just 1-9 last season and is seeking its first winning season since 2008 when it finished 7-4. The head coach of the Bulldogs is Harold Williams.   Lafayette will host New Kent on Friday, Sept. 7 and will play at Bruton on Friday, Sept. 14. The Rams will be at Smithfield on Friday, Sept. 21. All three games will begin at 7 p.m.
