Local fisherman hold top spots at Saltwater Tournament
Local residents were among the top fishermen in the Virginia Saltwater Fishing Tournament through Wednesday, Aug. 29. Matthew Hamay of Gloucester, Josh Jordan of Poquoson, Robert B. Gennings of Williamsburg and Jay Barefoot of Hampton have reeled in some of the top catches of the tourney. Hamay's top catch was an 86-pound black drum. Gennings caught a one-pound, nine-ounce kingfish (roundhead) and Barefoot caught a 321-pound bluefin tuna. Jordan caught a 97-pound cobia. The International Game Fish Association provided the information. It is a non-profit group that works to protect game fish and promote responsible fishing from headquarters in Dania Beach.
