High school football: Lafayette win season opener over Brunswick

The Lafayettte High School football team crushed Brunswick 49-12 on Friday, Aug. 31.

The Rams were playing their season opener and Brandon Vllanueva-Pernell stepped up big in the second half to help put the game away.

He scored on a 60-yard run with 5:37 left in the third quarter and returned a punt 40 yards for a score in the fourth quarter.

Lafayette rolled up 372 yards, including 288 on the ground, while Brunswick managed 185 yards.

Lafayette will play at home against New Kent on Friday, Sept. 7 and will play at Bruton on Friday, Sept. 14. The Rams will play at Smithfield on Friday, Sept. 21. All three games will begin at 7 p.m.
