Lafayette football looks to stay undefeated against Bruton

The Lafayette High School football team will try to stay undefeated when it takes on Bruton on Friday, Sept. 14 in a 7 p.m. game.

Lafayette defeated New Kent 57-21 on Friday, Sept. 7 in its Bay Rivers District opener, and is now 2-0 overall.

The Rams limited the Trojans to 38 yards on the ground. Lafayette rolled up 325 yards on the ground while New Kent tallied 261 yards through the air.

Lafayette went into halftime with a 27-7 lead after Schekel Wallace ran one yard into the end zone.

Brendan McGinty threw a touchdown pass and ran for a touchdown. Jalil Green ran for two touchdowns.

Bruton comes in at 1-1 after a 12-0 loss to Smithfield in its district opener in which the Panthers managed only 70 yards of offense. They played well on defense, recovering four fumbles, but were unable to capitalize on the opportunities.

The Packers finished the game with 343 yards.

Bruton will play Grafton on Friday, Sept. 21 and will play at Warhill on Friday, Sept. 28. The Panthers will play Tabb on Friday, Oct. 5. All three games will begin at 7 p.m.

Lafayette will play at Smithfield on Friday, Sept. 21 and will play at Grafton on Saturday, Sept. 29 in a 7 p.m. game. The Rams will take on Warhill on Friday, Oct. 5 in a 7 p.m. game.
