Warhill football heads to Poquoson for district matchup
Warhill High School's football team will go on the road to play Poquoson on Friday, Sept. 14 in a 7 p.m. district encounter.
Warhill is coming off a 34-8 loss to York on Friday, Sept. 7 in the Bay Rivers District opener.
Seth Thompson threw a touchdown pass to Jacoby Shontz for the Lions' only points of the opening half. Warhill trailed 14-6 at halftime.
Warhill (1-1) did force four turnovers, but was hurt by the fact that star running back Devonte Dedmon has been dealing with an ankle injury. He did not carry the ball against York, but caught three passes for 28 yards.
Poquoson grinded out a 21-20 win over Grafton in overtime Sept. 8.
The Islanders tied the game at 14-14 after Johnny Pryce threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Ethan Bryce with six seconds to play. The extra-point attempt was blocked and the two teams went into OT.
Pryce threw the game-winning touchdown to Reece Thornburg in OT. The game was sealed when Michael Roy hit the extra-point attempt. Logan Schwartz scored a touchdown as well on a 1-yard run.
Poquoson (1-1) will play Tabb on Friday, Sept. 21 and will play at Jamestown on Friday, Sept. 28. The Islanders will play York on Friday, Oct. 5. All three games will begin at 5 p.m.
Warhill will play at New Kent on Friday, Sept. 21 and will play Bruton on Friday, Sept. 28. The Lions will play at Lafayette on Friday, Oct. 5. All three games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
