High School football: Bruton faces confident Grafton

The Bruton High School varsity football team will try to bounce back this week when it hosts Grafton in a 7 p.m. Bay Rivers District encounter in Williamsburg.

Grafton cruised to a 43-19 win over New Kent on Friday, Sept. 14, as Dylan Bartells scored four touchdowns to spark Grafton, three on the ground.

The win improved the Clippers' record to 1-2 overall, 1-1 in the district.

Bartells rushed for 177 yards and Jett Johnson threw two TD passes to Bryan Mitchell.

Bruton was knocked off 45-13 by Lafayette on Friday, Sept. 14. The Panthers, now 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the district, trailed 39-7 at halftime.

The Panthers scored their only touchdown of the opening half against Lafayette a one-yard run by Bilal Wallace. Elijah Rice scored on a 69-yard run for Bruton.

Grafton will play Lafayette on Saturday, Sept. 29, and will face Smithfield on Friday, Oct. 5. The Clippers will take on Warhill on the road on Friday, Oct. 12.

Bruton will play at Warhill on Friday, Sept. 28 and then face Tabb on Friday, Oct. 5. The Panthers will play at Jamestown on Friday, Oct. 12.

All games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
