Bruton girls volleyball falls to York

The Bruton High School Panthers girls volleyball team fell to the York High School Falcons in a AA Bay Rivers League matchup Sept. 19 in Williamsburg.

Aubrey Brockmiller recorded a game-high seven kills to go along with one dig in leading the Lady Falcons (5-3, 5-2 Bay Rivers) to the 25-13, 25-20, 25-14 win. Ashley Mandrick helped out with 17 assists, four service aces and a pair of digs, while Sydney Sumner once again brought her all-around game, picking up five kills, one block, four aces and three digs.

With the win, the Lady Falcons put an stop to a two-match losing streak. York began the season winning four of its first five matches.

Alexis Calloway had three kills and 11 digs as the Lady Panthers (0-7, 0-7) were kept winless in league play and for the season. Liz Lee contributed one kill, six assists and five digs, and Shayla Hillian had one ace, one kill and three blocks in the loss.

The match, originally set for Sept. 18, was rescheduled due to heavy rains in the Williamsburg area.

York will play its next two matches at home, hosting Grafton High School on Tuesday, Sept. 25 and Warhill High School on Thursday, Sept. 27.

Bruton will visit New Kent High School on Tuesday, Sept. 25 and host Smithfield High School on Thursday, Sept. 27.

All upcoming contests for each school will begin at 6:30 p.m. and are in Bay Rivers League play.
