Jamestown High School grad Harris leads Christopher Newport University to win

Jamestown High School graduate Cory Harris had nine digs Oct. 20, as Christopher Newport University rolled to a 3-0 victory over Averett in women's college volleyball action.

Harris, a senior outside hitter, also contributed three blocks and eight kills in the win, along with a .214 hitting percentage.

Christopher Newport University won 25-19, 25-14 and 25-18 at Averett in Danville. The team is now 28-2 on the season.

The next contest for Christopher Newport University is 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, on the road against North Caroline Wesleyan College.

Harris is a 2009 graduate of Jamestown High School, where she was team tri-captain and received numerous accolades. As a junior, she was named second team All-District. During her senior season, Harris received second team All-State, first team All-Region and Bay River District Player of the Year honors. She also was named Daily Press Metro Player of the Year and Virginia Gazette co-Player of the Year. Born July 15, 1991, Harris is the daughter of Trey Harris and Cory Springer. She is majoring in communications.
